Extracting Files

There are several ways to extract files.

Extracting All files

You can use the File/Extract All menu option or the Extract All toolbar button.

Either of these options will display the ‘Extract All’ dialog.

This allows you to choose a location in the file system where all the files will be created. You can select the current directory or any directory you wish; sub-directories will be created as needed.

You can also choose how the paths are re-created under the directory you select.

When extracting all files ‘full path extract’ and ‘partial path extract’ are identical in functionality, they differ only when extracting sub directories. When ‘Extracting All Files’ you can choose to extract ‘flat files’  in which case the file is extracted and placed in the selected directory, the original path in the zip file is ignored.

Extracting Subdirectories And Individual Files

You can select a single Directory in the left-hand tree or  several directories and/or files in the right-hand table. Then using the right-hand button, a popup-menu will allow you to extract the selected files and/or directories. An ‘Extract’ dialog is again displayed allowing you to chose where the files will be placed and how paths will be re-created in the location you choose.

When choosing how to re-create paths, the default is ‘full path extract’ . With this option, the path is re-created exactly under the directory you specify. You can also

choose ‘partial path extract’ , with this option, the path is re-created from the item you selected under the directory you specify, i.e. the item you select is treated as the root. The final option is ‘extract flat files’, under this option all files are extracted to the directory you specify, no directory paths are maintained – one danger with this mode is that if two or more files have the same name, the 2nd file will overwrite the first.

Drag and Drop

You can Drag & Drop files from the either the tree or table view onto applications that accept this sort of information – under Windows this would be Windows Explorer. When files are dropped the partial-path is created – e.g. this is just like dragging files and directories from one Widows Explorer window to another.
